About Ski Ward Race Team

The Ski Ward Race Team‘s (SWRT) is a volunteer-run, learn-to-race program whose mission is to promote the ideals of good sportsmanship, and to provide an opportunity for young skiers to develop and improve their skiing and racing skills in a safe and enjoyable recreational ski team setting.

Our program is founded on the philosophy that sound racing techniques evolve from sound skiing techniques and that the learning process should be a positive and fulfilling experience.

SWRT competes in the Eastern Massachusetts Buddy Werner League (EMBWL), an entry-level league that is comprised of several teams from the eastern Massachusetts area:  Ski Ward, Bradford Ski Team, Nashoba Valley Ski Club, Prospect Hill Ski Team, and Bogastow (formerly Dover-Sherborn).

Children and Young Adults in grades K through 12 are eligible to join the Ski Ward Race Team. Although no racing experience is necessary, prospective members must be able to ski confidently and in control from the top of Ski Ward, making good turns. They must  be able to ride the T-Bar or chairlift without adult assistance. Please click here for specific requirements for children under the age of 8. New racers will be evaluated for readiness on the first night of practice. If our coaching staff determines a skier is not yet ready for the program, registration fees will be refunded.

The competition season consists of seven or eight races (Slalom and Giant Slalom) that take place on Sundays starting in early January. The season culminates the first weekend in March with the EMBWL championship, open to all racers who participate in a minimum of three regular-season races.
