Requirements for U8 skiers participating on the Ski Ward Race Team
- All skiers must be 5 years old by the start of the season
- This is NOT a learn to ski program—it is a learn to race program. It is expected that the child can ski the Ski Ward terrain from top to bottom, safely and in control. Please note that some of the away hills that we race, while comparable in size to Ski Ward, have slightly steeper terrain. We want to be sure that your skier is able to stay in control and stop when required.
- Beginning with the first practice, all skiers must be able to ride the T-bar either independently or with another child. We simply do not have enough adults and junior coaches to accommodate everyone. This is especially important at away races.
- It is not expected that your child will ride the chairlift without an adult or junior coach. Most are too short to pull the safety bar properly which is why we rely heavily on the T-bar.
- All children must be able to take directions and listen when instructions are given. Remember that our practices are from 7:00-8:30pm on Friday evenings.
- This is not a drop off program. A parent/guardian must always be on the property.
- If you know your child may have difficulty with any of these at the beginning of the season and yet they are still interested, we welcome and encourage parents to be on the slopes with their kids—whether or not you have a racing background.
